Description:

In the middle of the darkest region of explored space sits one bright beacon; Freeground Station. Serving as a supply and trading post it is home to a select number of human beings that will take an unlikely chance to make a difference in their end of the galaxy.

Jonas and his friends spent their spare time in tactical simulations and drew the attention of Freeground Fleet Command when they hacked into restricted combat scenarios for elite trainees and defeated all comers.

Instead of punishing Jonas and his friends they offered them an opportunity to undertake a dangerous and exciting mission. They were to go out into the Galaxy and acquire any advantages that would improve life for Freegrounders.

This series is about their first voyage together, the challenges they face, and the relationships they forge with each other and the beings they meet along the way.

The First Light Chronicles Omnibus contains the entire First Light Chronicles Trilogy. Freeground, Limbo and Starfree Port.

The Spinward Fringe Series follows this collection in the following order: Spinward Fringe Resurrection, Awakening, Triton and Frontline.

Publisher's opinion:

Geoff of SomaCow Radio says; "Engaging, thrilling, exciting, new concepts. This author does a great job of integrating the staples of science fiction in new ways. Loved the character interaction (especially in the last one). There are great twists in this book series. It was like getting hit in the back of the head, I didn't see them coming. I really enjoyed reading and reviewing this book series and I'm going on to read Resurrection. I see big things coming for this author."

"Good science fiction is hard to find, good independent writers are even harder. This is the best independent writer I've read in a decade, bar none.

He strikes a balance between plot and character that most professionals struggle and fail to achieve. I recommend this book to all my listeners and to everyone who appreciates a character driven story."

Reviews:

Excellent - (Steve Cilenti on 24 August 2009)
I enjoyed this book enough that I bought the rest of this author's books.

Better than expected - (Michal Dzierzanowski on 15 June 2009)
I was looking for a science fiction series to read, having spent most of my time on fantasy. This book fit well using modern science and showing how things would work out in the future if they came true. I will definitely be reading the next set of books in the related series.

first light series - (Duane C on 30 April 2009)
I enjoyed the book, need to read about 20-30 pages to get use to his style of writing. I am a big si-fi, fsntsy reader; space opera to haed science.Randolpg puts alittle of both in his books. I will be getting his next series soon.

Fantastic! - (Ian Cullen on 21 March 2009)
The First Light Chronicles Omnibus edition is one of the most exciting books I have ever read. The action is fast past and I love the characters. It's very easy to read and has a great story. I was so chuffed when I discovered the series continued in the Spinward Fringe Series of books. I highly recommend this book and the Spinward Fringe Series to any Sci-fi fan. I can't wait for the next one in the series! :)

Very good but makes some unbelievable jumps - (Mark Etrheim on 18 March 2009)
even for science fiction this gets a bit hard to imagine. Still a good read that goes by quickly.

Addictive Brand New Adventure - (Allan on 28 February 2009)
I was fortunate enough to encounter this series because I was waiting at the airport and didn't want to settle for the lousy books available at the one magazine stand, and decided to try MobiPocket on my Blackberry Storm. Never mind the fact that I found myself enjoying using my Blackberry as an eBook reader, the First Light Chronicles Omnibus was a terrific story, told like a classic adventure and kept me entertained all night long. I purchased the rest of the Spinward Fringe Series available right away afterward and I'm hooked ever since.

Great entertaining reading - (Chris on 11 February 2009)
Enjoyable SciFi series. I enjoyed the humor and the first person orientation as well as the action. Has some good twists and it is good for readers of all ages. Some authors put some really "adult" stuff in and I can let my son read this (which he is and he really likes it too).

Superb read, A Must for Sci-Fi Fans - (Neil on 25 October 2008)
I picked this up as a 'filler' to read while travelling - couldn't put it down and had to get the 'Spinward Fringe' series for the rest of the trip. I have never looked forward to the release of a new novel (Triton) with such anticipation after reading the previous books. An absolute must have for any Sci-Fi fan. Thanks for a superb read Randolph, you have a fan for life!

This guy is going to be HUGE - (Dee on 18 October 2008)
Imaginative and well written, this book takes well established science-fiction tech and refines it, then wraps it in to some seriously amazing storylines. Yes, I said storylines. There are enough unexplored areas in the First Light’s world to keep Mr. Lalonde writing for the rest of his career. The basic ‘world’ rules and back-story are laid out in an almost seamless manner as the story unfolds. Lacking the expected jitteriness of back-and-forth you see in a lot of new authors, characters are developed in an orderly narrative. The scenes and dialogue are both believable and absorbing with none of the grammatical and structural issues commonly found in self-published books. The tactical/battle scenes are well described and create an easy suspended-disbelief which will keep most readers on the edge of their seats through-out the process. If you are a late night reader, prepare for a couple of rough days at work, it’s hard to put this one down. All technicalities aside this story is what my brother would call “a fun ride!” I can’t wait for more from this up-and-coming author.

Scifi for short attention spans - (Ken Brigstock on 15 September 2008)
The story moves so fast I didn't want to put it down. I could also read for fifteen minutes and in just a few pages there's enough plot to make it worth it. I loved reading this on my Blackberry.

Can't wait for more - (Dan Feldman on 12 September 2008)
I read Spinward Fringe: Resurrection before this, not realizing that the First Light series came first. After going back and reading Omnibus I'm amazed at how different and how very good it was. Mr. Lalonde uses a lot of technology you see in science and science fiction today, but he uses a lot of it differently, he likes to put creative spins on conventional ideas, and that starts in the first few pages. I took a sick day to finish reading this book then re-read the Spinward Fringe book and just can't wait for more. This writer knows how to keep things fun and fast paced while telling a story that feels important to the reader, you really pick sides and start rooting for people, sympathizing for the characters. This is a hell of a find.

Good read, but too short - (Shelly on 11 September 2008)
This is the fastest paced book I've read in years. There's something new going on all the time, and you really get inside the main character's head. They're great first person perspective novels. The only real problem I found was that they are just too short! I'm looking for more work by Randolph.

Rumor of TV series! - (Ted Bowseman on 8 September 2008)
I've never read or seen science fiction like this anywhere and I hope they make it into a television series like the rumors are saying. I'm keeping up with every single book Randolph's put out, and I've shared it with my wife, who generally dislikes science fiction, but has become a Randolph fanatic since reading this. She's started reading his fantasy novels and likes those even more, so I'll have to check them out now too. I can't wait to see what he does with his Spinward Fringe series, and I truly hope to see him on television soon!

Fantastic adventure! - (Paul Ferman on 8 September 2008)
I got a lot more than I expected out of this collection of novellas. Really easy to read on my cellphone, its like it's written for reading on the bus or on breaks. The story is fantastic, I love the main characters, the science fiction concepts are original, which is hard to find, and the ending completely blew me away. I'm ordering the next one right now. I recommend this to every fiction reader, Randolph pushes well past the Science Fiction audience with his fantastic characters and great descriptive prowess.
